The Gunners were downed by a second half Joshua Kimmich header in an otherwise tight and cagey evening at the Allianz Arena, with Thomas Tuchel's men winning 1-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.
The defeat comes just days after Arsenal were beaten 2-0 at home in the Premier League by Aston Villa, which put a huge dent in their domestic title hopes. In what was undoubtedly one of the biggest tests of his Arsenal career, Mikel Arteta had plenty of big decisions to make this evening in Germany. Here's what Daily Star Sport reckoned he got wrong out there.
Risking Tomiyasu

It was a brave call to pick Takehiro Tomiyasu over the likes of Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko, and one that didn't pay off. The Japan international, who was making his first start since December, was thrown in at the deep end and looked out of his depth all evening.

He struggled to contend with Leroy Sane both on and off the ball and at one point the German made him do the splits. He also fell asleep to allow Joshua Kimmich to ghost in and head home the winner.
On such a big occasion, experience and rhythm are key. So why Arteta chose to hand a start to a man who's made just five sub appearances since November is anyone's guess.Granted, Gabriel Jesus' performance against Villa at the weekend wasn't anything to write home about, but in hindsight, the Gunners could have done with some of the Brazilian's experience tonight.
Jesus scored 20 Champions League goals in 38 games for Manchester City, and having a credible goal-threat (sorry Kai) occupying the minds of the Bayern's defenders couldn't done wonders for Arsenal.
Havertz spent the game floating around like a leather-allergic ghost, and picking him over Jesus, who came on with 20 minutes left, was the wrong call.

A lack of central steel
Jorginho

What Arsenal really could've done with tonight is some steel in midfield. Declan Rice was a physical presence but his midfield partner, Jorginho, really wasn't.
The titchy Italian was good in possession, but out of possession he was a passenger and allowed the likes of Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane to penetrate the space between midfield and defence and cause havoc - and was hooked after Bayern took the lead.
Thomas Partey's barely been involved this season, but history tells us he's a reliable battering ram of a midfielder, and Arteta should have used him tonight.
