Ramsdale started the season as Mikel Arteta's No.1 but despite conceding just four goals in as many matches, the 26-year-old found himself bumped from the starting line-up with Brentford loanee David Raya taking his place. The former Sheffield United and Bournemouth man would make just two further appearances in the Premier League in games against the Bees when Raya was ineligible to face his parent club.
He did feature in domestic cup competitions but the Champions League was mainly reserved for Raya and there is speculation that Ramsdale could be headed for the exit door in the summer transfer window. Addressing his season and the upcoming European Championships, Ramsdale insisted that his confidence has not been shaken by the campaign he has just had.
Gary Neville has already told Aaron Ramsdale what he must do amid Arsenal transfer exit talk
"The season has been difficult but I've obviously shown Gareth enough in the camps and the games that I have played previously for club and country," he told Sky Sports News. "He knows what I can do and he can trust me.
"I'm confident but that still doesn't mean that there's not other great goalies out there and we have three other great ones with us so it's going to be a fight to get in." Southgate has named four goalkeepers in his England squad for the upcoming tournament but this will likely be whittled down to three when the England manager names his final 26-man team.
Crystal Palace's Dean Henderson, Everton's Jordan Pickford and Burnley's James Trafford have joined Ramsdale in the training camp. Trafford is the favourite to miss out considering the trio's international experience.
