Arsenal could now sign 'one of the most feared attackers' in Europe for just £52m, Saka beware - opinion

Arsenal have gone from strength to strength in recent years and remain in Premier League title contention going into the final day of the season.

However, the Gunners are far from the finished product and may well be busy in the summer transfer window in pursuit of the final pieces of the jigsaw.

One area Arsenal could do with strengthening is in attack. Not only do the Gunners need an out-and-out No. 9 but more cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli wouldn’t go amiss.

In recent weeks, Arsenal have been linked with a player who’d go a long way towards really strengthening the flanks and, as an added bonus, provide cover for Martin Odegaard.

The player in question is Paris Saint-Germain talent Xavi Simons, who has been impressing on loan at RB Leipzig this season.

A report has begun doing the rounds claiming PSG might actually be willing to sell Simons this season, rather than just loaning him out.

Spanish outlet Sport have reported that the Ligue 1 giants are willing to start discussions for the 21-year-old at €60million (around £52million).

And while Barcelona want to sign Simons, who in turn fancies a move to the Camp Nou, the report suggests they won’t have the money for him along with the priority signings they need to make.

With that in mind, the likes of Arsenal could swoop in and get their hands on Simons ahead of Barca.

Xavi Simons would be great competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal
Simons has enjoyed a switch rise to prominence over the years, having plied his trade at a number of illustrious clubs including Barca, PSG and Leipzig.

And while the Dutchman has been deemed a potential heir to Kevin De Bruyne in midfield, he’s been featuring – and impressing – in attack of late.

Most of Simons’ appearances for Leipzig this season have come on the flanks, and he has registered nine goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

The Bundesliga website deemed him ‘one of the most feared attackers in Germany’s top flight’ back in February, and this very much remains the case.

Let’s see whether Arsenal can get a deal for Simons over the line. He’s a top talent on par with Saka and Martinelli, and maybe the Gunners duo will need to be mindful of their spots in the XI if he joins.
