Arsenal face stiff competition to sign AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana

Youssouf Fofana (25) has just one year remaining on his deal at AS Monaco. Currently, there are no talks of a renewal and as the Principality club’s CEO Thiago Scuro revealed earlier this month, the door is open for the France international to leave this summer.

“He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling. We will see the opportunities that he has,” said Scuro in a roundtable interview, attended by Get French Football News. All the signs are that Fofana’s options will be plentiful this summer.

The calibre of suitors is higher than last season, when clubs such as Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Fulham made approaches. This summer, it is the likes of Arsenal, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain that are showing interest. According to a report from L’Équipe, all four aforementioned clubs have held discussions with Fofana’s entourage, although neither have engaged in concrete discussions. It is not expected that Fofana’s future will be resolved before the end of the Euros, however, whoever signs the Frenchman will have to contend with competition.
