Mikel Arteta has the chance to bring in some new faces over the summer as he looks to add to his ranks. He could also let a few players head out the exit door to free up space and funds in his ranks. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the latest transfer news and rumours coming out of the club...
Arsenal striker Mika Biereth is wanted by Sheffield Wednesday and Sturm Graz in the upcoming transfer window, according to a report by The Star. He spent the second-half of last term on loan with the latter after linking up with them in January.
Biereth, who is 21-years-old, was given the green light to join the Austrian Bundesliga outfit on a temporary basis to get some experience under his belt. He went on to score nine goals in 22 games for them in all competitions to boost his development and help them win the title.
The Denmark youth international has been on the books at the Emirates Stadium since joining the Gunners in 2021 from fellow London outfit Fulham. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance.
Instead, he has also had loan stints away at RKC Waalwijk in Holland and Motherwell in Scotland to get some experience under his belt.
Arsenal will have a decision to make on what to do with him when he officially returns from Sturm Graz. Sheffield Wednesday remain in the Championship after Danny Rohl managed to keep them up and could offer him the chance to play in the second tier for the first time as they look to bring in some more quality.
Attacker latest
Arsenal are in the hunt for a new striker and have Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee on their ‘shortlist’, as detailed in a report by The Mirror. Arteta is keen to add more firepower to his attacking department.
Zirkzee has caught the eye in Serie A and has recently addressed transfer speculation relating to him: “At the moment my head is only in Bologna.
“I want to recover from the injury and have some nice holidays in the United States with my childhood friends and then we’ll see what happens.
“I arrived here leaving Bayern Munich. I was excited to come to Bologna because I wanted to play. The championship was of a high level, I wanted to compete.
“The club already had a clear vision of what it wanted to do – compete to qualify for Europe. However, no one could have ever thought that this season could go like this. There was the idea of being able to enter Europe, but step by step, not directly into the Champions League.
“At a certain point in the season, however, we said to ourselves, ‘who cares, let’s go to the Champions League, if we have to conquer Europe, let’s take the biggest prize’. The direction of the club has always been that, but honestly no one expects to get there so quickly.
“I’m a better player, for sure. A season like this earns you a lot of points, also in terms of experience. I have to share everything with my teammates, fantastic people, the group is before everything.”
