The Gunners are keen to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window, football.london understands, with the forward line among the areas considered a priority to address. A lot may depend on exits, however, with a number of Arsenal stars facing uncertain futures.
Ahead of the window opening on June 14, sporting director Edu has revealed club staff have been discussing targets since January. Speaking to Brazilian publication Estadao, via Metro, Edu said: "You can’t sign players for the sake of signing. This has to be a process that takes weeks and weeks. There on my desk, I have reports with more than 180 pages on a player.
"It’s really detailed stuff. Physical, technical, mental profile, if you have Premier League experience, if you will be able to adapt. It has everything.
"We analyse our weaknesses, where we can improve, where we can invest and then we go in search of that new name. What I am going to do now, we have been discussing since January. It’s not my decision or Mikel’s alone. It belongs to a whole group."
Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee are among the strikers to have been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium. Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Ajax defender Jorrel Hato are also being monitored by the Gunners.
Arsenal go into the window on the back of a second consecutive title challenge. Mikel Arteta will be keen to strengthen the squad over the coming months to bridge the gap between the Gunners and Manchester City as he bids to challenge on all fronts during the 2024/25 campaign.
Reflecting on Arsenal's last 12 months, Edu added: "It’s a strange feeling, very strange, because we end the season with the feeling that we’ve done everything right. From the signings and the goals, to the renewals.
"Mikel did a great job and achieved the goals. We did everything we could, but it wasn’t enough. There’s frustration, but there’s also a positive feeling that the process was done well. The work was excellent."
