Jamie Carragher reveals moment in Premier League title race that will 'haunt' Arsenal

Jamie Carragher believes Son Heung-min's defining miss against Manchester City will still be "haunting" Arsenal in a decade.
The South Korean had Tottenham's best chance to steal a point on Tuesday night, which would've allowed the Gunners to take control of the Premier League title race with one game to go. But Son, usually so reliable, saw his effort saw by Stefan Ortega.

City doubled their advantage shortly afterwards to seal a 2-0 victory that puts them on the cusp of a fourth league success in a row - a feat never before achieved in English football. Arsenal had been hoping their arch rivals would do them a favour and Carragher admits the game's defining moment will linger with the Gunners' fans.

He said on a Sky Sports podcast: "Tottenham gave Man City more problems than I’ve probably seen anybody give them for a long time, in terms of the chances they created. Ortega, tonight alone, has won them the Premier League title.

"Obviously a lot’s gone into that over the season but when you look at this game, if he doesn’t make those saves at 1-0, Arsenal will win the league. That’s how close it is. When I think of me a few years ago as a Liverpool fan, watching Vincent Kompany put that shot in against Leicester, that is that moment now for Arsenal fans.

"That Son chance is the moment Arsenal fans will remember in five, 10 years’ time. Even if they win the title in the next five years – and they’ve got a chance of doing that because they’re a great team with a great manager – that chance will still haunt them."

Arsenal have been battling with City for a second successive season, but as things stand look set to finish second best once more. They've ran Pep Guardiola's outfit closer than they did last term, where they fell away in the final weeks of the seas

The Manchester outfit, as they often are, have been relentless in the final weeks and months of the season. Arsenal have won their final five games but defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates last month looks like it could prove pivotal in the title race.

Guardiola said on Ortega's exploits in north London: "Ortega saved the actions, otherwise Arsenal is champion. That is the reality in modern football. The margins are so, so tight."

In the history of the Premier League, whenever the title race has gone down to the final day, the team starting the day in second has never managed to overhaul the team at the top.
