Liverpool could torpedo Arsenal's plan to sign Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak's rumoured move to Arsenal could be scuppered by Liverpool.
Liverpool could scupper Premier League rivals Arsenal’s hopes of signing Newcastle United star Alexander Isak during the summer transfer window. Isak has been linked to an Emirates Stadium move in recent weeks, with Newcastle believed to be open to a sale, as FFP pressures begin to take their toll.

It could prove to be a busy summer of intra-Premier League transfer activity, with big-name stars expected to move between different clubs in the division. Isak to Arsenal is a deal that has been mooted, with Newcastle under pressure to make sales.

However, the Gunners could see their plan to sign the Swede scuppered if Liverpool offered up big money for another one of Newcastle’s main men. According to the Daily Star, the Reds are eyeing up a surprise move for ex-Everton star Anthony Gordon.

Gordon has dazzled for Newcastle since his £45million move up north, notching up 23 goal contributions in just over 60 appearances. His performances have earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with the attacker a serious candidate to be on the plane to Germany later this summer.

Anthony Gordon is reported to be on Liverpool's transfer wishlist.
As such, the 23-year-old has caught the eye of hometown club Liverpool, who are drawing up potential targets for their first summer transfer window of the post-Jurgen Klopp era. But should the 2019/20 Premier League champions wish to tempt Newcastle into a sale, they’ll likely have to stump up a nine-figure fee.

It’s reported that the Magpies would only entertain an offer close to £100m for Gordon, who was recently named Newcastle’s Player of the Season. A hefty fee no doubt, but if Liverpool sanction the surprise move, it could hamper Arsenal’s attempt to sign Isak.
