View: Arsenal will ready transfer push for Everton star after what happened in final-day clash

Everton ended their Premier League campaign with a late defeat to title-challengers Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
While the Toffees would have been disappointed to lose to a late goal from Kai Havertz on Sunday (19 May) Sean Dyche’s side gave an excellent account of themselves in North London as they pushed the Gunners all the way.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin once led the line excellently while Jordan Pickford shone between the posts. But in the middle of the park, Amadou Onana produced one of his best displays in recent weeks as he showed just how good he can be.

No player on either side won more than the Belgian international’s eight duels as came away with possession in 100 per cent of his aerial and ground battles against the Gunners, according to Fotmob.

While he struggled to have a major impact on the game in possession as he only completed 79 per cent of his 33 attempted passes, he did show his ability with the ball at his feet as he completed 100 per cent of his attempted dribbles.

Will Arsenal push to sign Everton star Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window?
There has been plenty of speculation around Onana’s future heading into the summer transfer window and David Ornstein (28 March) has previously reported that the Gunners are one side who admire the 22-year-old midfielder.

Although he reported at the time that Mikel Arteta’s side were unlikely to pursue a deal to bring him to the Emirates this summer, Onana’s performance against them on Sunday may persuade them to act on their interest.

Arsenal want a player who can slot in alongside Declan Rice and help break up play and although the Toffees came away empty-handed, the Everton star showed that he is capable of exactly that.

One game alone likely won’t make the Gunners fork out the money required to secure his signature, but it wouldn’t be a total shock if a bid now arrived at Goodison Park.

It is common knowledge that the Blues may need to cut their cloth accordingly this summer amid their financial woes and that could mean that the Toffees will have to accept a big bid if it arrives, which will be a blow heading into next season.
