Arsenal could have double secret weapon in Michael Olise transfer race

Arsenal could benefit from a double secret weapon in the transfer race for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise this summer.

The winger has been one of the named talked about a lot already ahead of the summer transfer window opening later this month. Despite seeing his injury disrupted by injury, he is gaining the interest of several clubs.
Last season saw Chelsea trigger a £35 million release clause in his contract. But instead of making the move to Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman signed a new deal with Palace that includes a higher release clause although it is not clear what the new figure is.

Arsenal are among the clubs linked with an interest in the 22-year-old and could use their contacts to their advantage this summer. Olise was left out of the France squad for the European Championships in Germany that kick off in just over a week, but he will still be busy over the summer.

The winger has instead been named in France’s preliminary squad for the Olympic games held in Paris. The games officially start on Friday, 26 July.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is taking charge of the team for the games, meaning that he could potentially put in a good word for the club to Olise. He’s not the only Arsenal connection who the player will be spending a lot of time with.

Former Gunners’ striker Alexandre Lacazette has also been included in the squad. Teams are allowed to include three players over the age of 23, with Lacazette selected as one of the players to bring experience to the squad.

While the Olympics don’t officially start until the Friday, France actually kick off their campaign on Wednesday, 24 July when they take on the USA in their first group game. They then face Guinea three days later before taking on New Zealand in their final group game on Tuesday, 30 July.
