Arsenal are working to agree a new contract with 16-year-old Chido Obi Martin amid interest from Bayern Munich.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Football Insider journalist Connor Humm revealed that the club are making attempts to convince Chido Obi to stay, although contract talks have yet to yield a breakthrough.

Arsenal are placing a focus on retaining their top academy stars this summer while looking to provide a pathway into the senior team for the likes of Chido Obi and Ethan Nwaneri.

Bayern Munich are said to be working hard in the background to convince the striker to make the switch, while Arsenal officials are desperate for him to sign a new deal.

He will now weigh up his options before making the final decision on his long-term future.

The competition for his signature comes as a result of a stunning season in which the 16-year-old found the net 32 times in 18 Under-18s Premier League games.

Chido Obi bagged 11 goals in the final three games of the season, including an emphatic performance against Norwich in which he scored seven goals in a 9-0 victory.

He has also taken the step up to the Under-21s squad on two occasions, and has represented Denmark at under-17 level, having previously played for England’s under-16s.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have progressed into the senior team at Arsenal in recent years, and those at the club are hopeful Chido Obi can be the next to make the step up.
