Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Gunners will look to sign a midfielder to play alongside Declan Rice in the upcoming transfer window.
Sources say Thomas Partey could be allowed to leave the club after entering the final year of his contract, with a replacement for his role lined up.
Arteta is said to be a huge admirer of Zubimendi, 25, and could look to bring him in.
Arsenal want to sign Martin Zubimendi in summer transfer
Zubimendi has been at Real Sociedad since 2011, joining their academy setup when he was aged 12, making his senior debut for the club in 2019.
In that time, he has made 188 appearances for the first team, as well as featuring 50 times for the club’s B team – who also play senior football – to gain experience.
The midfielder has also represented Spain on five occasions, making his debut for his country in 2021 before recently establishing himself as a regular fixture in their squad, featuring in three of their last four games.
His current contract is set to run until 2027 after signing an extension last year.
Interest from Arsenal comes after the Gunners finished runners-up in the Premier League for a second year in a row, with Arteta looking to take his side one step further to pip Man City to the title.

With the club set to consider offers for Partey, Zubimendi remains the name at the top of their list for incoming signings in midfield.
