The Gunners are gearing up for a busy transfer window. Fans’ eyes will be on incomings, but Mikel Arteta could get rid of a few players too.
One extremely important Arsenal player has now made a claim about his future that could worry a few Gunners supporters ahead of the summer window.
Gabriel Magalhaes suggests he’d leave Arsenal for his dream club ‘tomorrow’
Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the first names on Arsenal’s team sheet every week.
The Brazilian joined the Gunners from Lille in the summer of 2020 for £27 million (Sky Sports). He has improved tremendously since and is now one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
Gabriel was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023. He was even benched in the first few games of the season, which fueled the speculation.
However, no move materialised then. Arsenal are in a strong position having tied him down to a contract until the summer of 2027.
Now, Gabriel has made his feelings clear about his ‘dream’ club – Corinthians.
The Brazilian has revealed that he would love to move to the Neo Química Arena, but he probably got a bit too excited in the interview on Cartoloucos’ YouTube channel.
While speaking about when he would want to join Corinthians, Gabriel claimed he’s ready to go ‘tomorrow’.
He said: “The Corinthians is since I was born. And today I don’t think it has to be any different. I keep going to the Corinthians game by train. It’s my dream, I want to play for Corinthians, I want to feel that energy.
“It’s something to be thought about. Sometimes I stop and think. ‘Do you have a dream to play for Corinthians?’. I have. ‘When would you play at Corinthians?’. For me, tomorrow I’d be at Corinthians.
“I hope not to delay because I want, as soon as possible, to feel the energy of that crowd, which is incredible.”
What Arsenal sources said about selling Gabriel in 2023
As mentioned above, Gabriel was a key target for clubs in Saudi Arabia before the 2023 summer transfer window closed.
The Brazilian is up there with the best centre-backs in the world, and his performances have caught everyone’s eye over the last few years.
Arsenal, however, have never had any interest in selling Gabriel – not even for a ridiculously high fee.
That stance is unlikely to have changed in 2024 after Gabriel had an amazing season, so it’s safe to assume that Corinthians don’t stand a chance this summer.
However, when Gabriel reaches the twilight of his career, a move back to Brazil could be a serious possibility.
