Derby County linked with free transfer for ex-Brighton and Arsenal goalkeeper

Derby County have been linked with a move for ex-Arsenal and Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan.

According to reports in the Dutch media, the Rams are said to be in the hunt for the Australian who is set to leave AZ Alkmaar.

Derby are on the lookout for a new number one after the departure of Joe Wildsmith at the end of last season while third-choice stopper Scott Loach was also let go. Ryan would be available on a free transfer and it is claimed that Derby have the "best credentials" to sign him.

Derby have made signing a goalkeeper their top priority with Josh Vickers the only stopper currently on the books as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

Ryan was best known for his spell at Brighton where he made 121 league appearances across a four-year spell. He then had a spell on loan at Arsenal in 2021 and made three appearances for the Gunners.

After leaving Brighton, Ryan went on to enjoy spells in Spain and Denmark before he moved to Alkmaar. He is also an Australian international and has won 93 caps.
