'He's unbelievable': Declan Rice thinks £180k-a-week Liverpool player at Euro 2024 is incredible

England have had an underwhelming start to the European Championships in Germany and as such, criticism has been widespread across a number of players in the squad.

Harry Kane’s performance against Denmark has been highlighted in recent days despite opening the scoring.

Another Three Lions player has come in for heavy stick but Rice has defended him in a glowing monologue.

Declan Rice hails Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold
Rice has come out in defence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and hailed him as one of the best players he’s ever seen.

“It’s funny because people were calling for Trent to play in midfield,” the Arsenal midfielder said on ITV.

“Half the country are calling for Trent to play in midfield. You play him in midfield and then you want to bring him down. I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all.

“I will defend all of my boys until the day I never put on an England shirt. Trent is one of the best players I have ever seen. Don’t call for someone to play in a position and then backtrack all because you think he has had a bad game or something.

“I will tell you now – Trent can play in midfield. I have seen it at England, I have seen it for Liverpool. He’s unbelievable.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold best in an inverted role
Whilst Alexander-Arnold certainly has the traits to ply his trade as a number eight, it doesn’t appear to be his strongest position.

Playing as an inverted right-back has looked like his best role, so perhaps Gareth Southgate should drop him back but still with the license to push on into attacking areas, where he can deliver pin point passes and crosses.

England face Slovenia in the final group game on Tuesday evening.
