Kai Havertz makes feelings clear to Arsenal after Benjamin Sesko transfer decision

Kai Havertz has revealed that he sees himself as a No.9 for Arsenal going forward after enjoying a strong end to the season.
The Germany international, 24, joined the Gunners in a £65million deal from Chelsea last summer, where he was used in a variety of positions. And despite Mikel Arteta 's plans to repackage him into a midfielder, Havertz ended the season as Arsenal's first-choice striker.

Havertz, who registered 20 goal contributions in the Premier League, plundered nine goals in 14 matches during the title run-in and finished the 2023/24 campaign third in the Arsenal scoring charts.

Now Havertz believes that he will continue to operate primarily as a No.9 for Arsenal, after proving his worth up front.

Speaking in the build-up to this summer's European Championships, Havertz told Welt am Sonntag : “I clearly see myself as a number 9 in the national team – and that’s what I am now at Arsenal. But I don’t mean the classic nine. Where else are they available? Even Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, who you immediately think of, don’t just stand in the box and wait for the finish.

“The players who are waiting there no longer exist in modern football. I am someone who enjoys letting go and making deep runs.

"But it is also clear to me that I will be measured by goals.”

Although Havertz finished the season in fine form, Arsenal are in the market for a new striker to work alongside him this summer - and Mirror Football have already revealed that Benjamin Sesko has been identified as a top target and WANTS the move

The Red Bull Leipzig forward, 21, is one of the most sought after striker's in Europe and has numerous high-profile suitors following an impressive 2023-24 campaign in Germany.

Sesko is expected to leave the Bundesliga outfit in the upcoming transfer window - and he would prefer a move to Arsenal ahead of other teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United.

Arsenal are also expected to try and bolster their squad with a winger, while they could move to strengthen in midfield if reported interest in Thomas Partey leads to a transfer. Long-term target Martin Zubimendi, though, has appeared to rule out a summer move after suggesting he is happy to remain at Real Sociedad.
