Michael Edwards, the CEO of the club, along with Richard Hughes are spearheading Liverpool’s recruitment drive, and it is quite clear the duo must have been in touch with the Old Lady.
The Italian journalist shared on X that the Reds have made contact in the “past few hours”. Juventus rate the 19-year-old defender very highly, and will demand a fee in the region of £25 million.
The youngster spent the last season on loan at AS Roma, where he managed two goals in 14 appearances. Atalanta are also keen to sign him, but they have not progressed with the move after initial contact.
Liverpool need to sign a new defender this summer
The Reds are actively looking to bolster their defence and are checking on plenty of options. Based on recent transfer searches (players linked with a move), Edwards appears to be looking to bring in a talented young defender with great potential to be a world-class player.
Liverpool are ready to invest heavily in such talents but they are probably not going to spend over the top. Joel Matip left the club following the expiry of his contract, while the Reds need to plan a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Huijsen has progressed through the youth ranks at Juventus and has made one senior appearance so far. His performance for Roma last season is an indication of his vast talent.
Liverpool have also registered an interest in signing Lille defender Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old defender is also targeted by Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The young centre back is regarded as a generational talent and will be allowed to leave this summer for a fee of about £50 million, and the Reds are ready to pounce on him if his move to Real Madrid collapses.
