Liverpool preparing new offer for England star

England play Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Sunday, with a quarter-final against Switzerland awaiting the winner of the tie.

The Swiss defeated Italy 2-0 on Saturday to reach the last eight of the Euros for the second successive tournament, and they will provide a stern test for whoever they face next.

The Three Lions, meanwhile, have been largely underwhelming so far this summer, winning just one of their three group stage games.

Manager Gareth Southgate has been the subject of criticism in recent days and the former Middlesbrough boss will expect to see his side improve against Slovakia.

Some supporters have called for Southgate to make changes to his starting line-up for the game, with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer vying for a starting spot.

Now, it appears that Gordon is the subject of interest from one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Gordon made his first appearance of Euro 2024 against Slovenia on Tuesday

As per Football Insider, Liverpool are preparing a second offer for Gordon, after talks between the Reds and Newcastle United collapsed.

The report claims that previous talks over a potential swap deal involving defender Jarell Quansah are no longer on the table, but the Reds remain interested in the winger and could look to complete a move while Gordon is on international duty in Germany.

It is even claimed that, if talks progress well, he could undergo a medical in Leipzig.

Gordon, 23, joined the Magpies from boyhood club Everton in January last year and has since played 64 times for the North East club, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists.

The Englishman’s contract with Newcastle is set to run until the summer of 2026, but Liverpool appear to hold genuine interest in signing the player this summer.
