‘Massive lie’: Liverpool fans won't like what Thierry Henry said after Real Madrid win the…

Real Madrid and Liverpool are the dominant forces in their respective countries when it comes to winning European Cups.

Liverpool have won six Champions League trophies – no English club has won more, with Manchester United coming in next at three.

But Real Madrid take it to a completely different level. Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Saturday in the Champions League final at Wembley.

That is now a record-breaking 15 European Cups for the Spanish giants, and with Kylian Mbappe arriving next season, you can’t see them stopping any time soon.

From Dani Carvajal’s header, which opened the scoring after 74 minutes, to the numerous stunning saves that were made by Thibaut Courtois.

It left an impression on Thierry Henry, who has pitch side at the home of football, and he had nothing but high praise for the man in between Madrid’s sticks.

Liverpool fans think very highly of their goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.

During the good times, he has won every trophy possible with them, including European glory in Madrid against Tottenham in 2019.

Even when things have been difficult for Liverpool, he has stepped up and delivered.

But, according to Henry, it’s not the Brazil star who is the best in the world, it’s Courtois, as he repeated on a number of occasions and how it’s a ‘massive lie’ that he isn’t good with his feet.

Liverpool fans won’t agree with this, but Henry also added that ‘there wasn’t a debate’ about who is the best shot-stopper in the world because he feels Courtois has now held that role for a ‘very long time’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/06/24 at 10:05 pm).

Thibaut Courtois helps Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund in Champions League final
“I am sure you remember, I called Thibaut Courtois the best goalkeeper in the world, before the final, not when he made those saves then everyone jumped on the bandwagon,” said Henry.

“I said that way before because I work with him. He is outstanding. Once again, if you take the Carvajal moment. He is Man of the Match.

Henry then told the Real Madrid man: “Thibaut, for me, there has been a debate that wasn’t a debate. You have been the best goalkeeper in the world for a very long time. You know it and I told you. I get annoyed when people say, ‘you can’t play with your feet’. That’s a lie. Massive lie. You are complete. You were Man of the Match tonight.”

Liverpool and Alisson Becker returning to the Champions League next season
After a 12-month absence, Liverpool will be back on Europe’s biggest stage next season to try and make it seven European Cup wins.

They will have to do it without Jurgen Klopp, who was present for the Madrid-Dortmund game, because a new fish is in town.

Liverpool have a rich history in this competition and Arne Slot will have to get used to that pretty quickly and it’s a trophy he should target.

It’s not going to be easy. The Reds never do it easy. But it’s his chance to prove his worth and show what he is all about.
