'My understanding is...': Journalist shares update on Joao Neves, amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool

Portugal midfielder Joao Neves is emerging as one of the most wanted players in Europe right now.

The classy 19-year-old has made an impression at Benfica already and has already shone during the Euros as well.

Neves, of course, is on the radar of a number of top teams across Europe, including some of the Premier League’s big hitters.

The likes of Arsenal are known admirers of Neves, while Liverpool have also registered an interest along with Manchester United.

Neves, then, could have the pick of a number of clubs this summer.

And according to journalist Duncan Castles, a door could be open for English clubs thanks to PSG baulking at the asking price.

PSG could open door for Arsenal and Manchester United in Joao Neves race
Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, experienced journalist Castles gave the latest on Neves and hinted that there could be an opening for Arsenal in terms of the fee demanded.

“The transfers podcast understands that in addition to interest from the Premier League – Manchester United have already made an offer – we’ve reported on that several weeks ago and Arsenal also have interest in him,” Castles said.

“PSG have also expressed their interest in signing Joao Neves and placing him in a new midfield alongside fellow Portuguese midfielder, Vitinha.

“PSG are looking for a new midfielder and want a special type of midfielder. The problem of course is whether you can get him out of Benfica. He has a 120m Euro release clause in his contract and the word from Portugal is it will take at least 100m to sign him.

“My understanding is PSG don’t want to go that far. Neves recently rejected a new contract which would have doubled his salary.”

Arsenal are known to be in the market for a new midfielder this summer as they look to give Declan Rice another partner in the middle of the park.

Man United, meanwhile, need to make one or two big signings to show they mean business under INEOS.

Neves, then, could well be a man in-demand as the window goes on and in the end, it could come down to who is prepared to pay that mammoth release-clause.
