NOT FAIR ENOUGH:Arsenal star Bukayo Saka would get surprise new role as Tony Cottee predicts his England line-up

Bukayo Saka is one of very few England players who have not put a foot wrong in the Euros, yet the Arsenal star could find himself with a new role against Slovenia.

England have a rich depth of attackers for this summer’s tournament with Gareth Southgate already facing selection headaches over his frontline.

Harry Kane has led the line for the Three Lions during both group games so far and, as the captain of the side, his spot is fairly secure.

However, the trio playing behind the Bayern Munich striker is where the debate heats up with Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka starting both games so far.

But after England looked toothless against both Denmark and Serbia, changes are expected for Tuesday’s clash.

Saka could be shifted away from his natural right-wing spot despite shining there for Arsenal last season.

Doing so would free up space for the likes of Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer or Foden, although his Manchester City teammate John Stones has said Foden would love a central role.

Tony Cottee names Bukayo Saka at left-back
Former England striker Tony Cottee has weighed in on the debate and suggested that Saka should revert to a left-back role he filled during his early years at Arsenal.

Via X, formerly known as Twitter, Cottee named a back line of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Saka with Declan Rice, Palmer, Foden, Bellingham and Gordon playing in midfield behind Kane.

Towards the end of his post, Cottee makes it clear that he wants to see England get further forward by signing off with: “Attack, attack, attack!”.

England cannot sacrifice Bukayo Saka in defence
While Saka did impress at left-back for the Gunners, he has transformed into a world-class talent since shifting to the right.

He has retained his defensive work rate while also proving to be a huge threat in the opposite box.

England do have a shortage of left-back options with Manchester United‘s Luke Shaw still unavailable through injury, but Southgate has enough issues to fix already without pushing more players into unnatural positions.

The service of Joe Gomez and Kieran Trippier should suffice at left-back with Saka best serving England from the right.
