The Gunners are searching for quality over quantity this summer as they attempt to bridge the gap on Manchester City – although Edu may have to cross one name off the shortlist after comments made on Saturday…
Rodrygo suggests he does not want to join Arsenal
A story by Spanish news outlet Sport recently claimed that Arsenal have made contact with Real Madrid over a deal to sign Rodrygo.
With Kylian Mbappe now heading to the Santiago Bernabeu after his contract at PSG expired, the Brazil international’s future has been clouded in doubt – it is highly likely that the France international will take his place in the starting XI, next to Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.
However, the Arsenal target – valued at €200m (£170m) by the CIES Football Observatory – has now insisted he plans to fight for his future at Real Madrid.
After winning the UEFA Champions League final with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Rodrygo said: “This week some media said about bids, clubs, interest. I don’t know anything about it and I’m not interested.
“Even if there are proposals, I have no idea about that. I’m staying. I’m happy here. How can I leave Real Madrid?!”
Gunners prioritising another target
Arsenal may have already been told about Rodrygo’s decision behind the scenes, as Edu has swiftly moved to sign RB Leipzig No.30 Benjamin Sesko.
A story by Football Transfers claims that Arsenal have now submitted a £46m bid to sign the Slovenia international, after he enjoyed a superb 2023/24 campaign.
Sesko – aged just 21 – scored 18 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Slovenian could become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.
