Report: Arsenal can now sign target for £26m less than release clause as club need cash, and he wants to join Gunners

Arsenal can now sign one of Mikel Arteta’s targets for less than his release clause due to his club’s need for cash – and he wants to join the Gunners.
While Arsenal are far from a poor club, there is a need to be financially prudent as the Premier League start to clamp down on their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – as Everton and Nottingham Forest found out last season in the form of points deductions.

Therefore, any discounts will come as welcome news for Arsenal, and a fantastic market opportunity has just arisen…

Arsenal can sign Ousmane Diomande for £26m less than release clause
A story from A Bola in Portugal now states that Sporting CP are willing to sell Ousmane Diomande for as little as €50m (£42m) this summer – despite the €80m (£68m) release clause written into his contract.

The Portuguese news outlet explain that Sporting CP still rate the Ivory Coast international highly, but he is the asset they are most content to lose this summer as a sale is needed.

It comes after another Portuguese news outlet in Record claimed that Diomande is wanted by Arsenal – as well as Chelsea – and the Ivorian defender would prefer to join the Gunners.

A Bola add that Sporting CP have already signed Zeno Debast from Anderlecht as a replacement for the 20-year-old, so a move does appear to be in the pipeline this summer.

Diomande made 38 appearances in all competitions for Sporting CP last season, scoring three goals while also providing one assist, while he also helped the Ivory Coast win the Africa Cup of Nations.

Interest in Marc Guehi may now cool
A story from Caught Offside recently claimed that Arsenal are plotting a move to sign Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi this summer.

The 23-year-old shone for England in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Serbia, and could leave Selhurst Park this summer with just 24 months remaining on his contract.

However, the Telegraph believe Crystal Palace will demand £65m for Guehi, which is obviously a lot more than Sporting CP want for Diomande, so perhaps Arsenal will cool their interest in the England international after A Bola’s story.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Arsenal hunt for a new central defender…
