'There and valid': Romano says 'incredible' Euro 2024 player linked with Arsenal has £34m release clause

Arsenal are set for a busy summer on the transfer front as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.
The Gunners have improved massively over the past few years under Arteta’s stewardship.

A team that was often finishing outside the top four has now been in the Premier League title picture for two years running.

Obviously there’s still some work to do to get Arsenal to the next level, and the Gunners will no doubt be looking to strengthen their ranks.

In recent days, there have been conflicting reports regarding an Arsenal target’s release clause. Now, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that it’s “still there and valid”.

Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal target Jeremie Frimpong has £34m release clause
The player in question is Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, who is currently at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands.

According to German outlet Bild, Arsenal are among the clubs keeping tabs on the 23-year-old winger.

GiveMeSport have reported that the €40million (£34million) release clause in Frimpong’s contract expired on 14 June, the day Euro 2024 began.

However, Romano has now told CaughtOffside that this release clause still stands.

“We’ve seen Jeremie Frimpong linked with Arsenal in recent times, but also more recently with Liverpool,” said the Italian.

“Still, I have no update on Frimpong now, because he will not decide anything on his future during the Euros – this is the current plan.

“The release clause is there and valid, but Frimpong wants to focus on the Euros now so the situation is currently quiet.”

Arsenal could pick Frimpong up for a bargain price
Although Romano hasn’t been able to give any updates regarding Frimpong’s future, he says the player’s release clause is still valid, despite reports to the contrary.

If that’s definitely the case, then it’ll be music to the Gunners’ ears, as Frimpong is a top talent who looks like he could become a superstar in the coming years.

Frimpong did well in his cameo appearance off the bench against Poland. Indeed, Goal.com speculated whether he should have been on before the 80th minute.

He will hope for more game time over the coming games as the Netherlands look to win their first major trophy since 1988.
