The Gunners took the Premier League title race to the final day of the season and also got to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last term.
Arsenal have made significant progress since Arteta took the reins in 2019, and the Gunners will hope they can go all the way next season.
In order to do that, Arsenal will need to strengthen further, and midfield is an area which the Gunners are apparently looking to reinforce.
One player Arsenal are reportedly monitoring is Everton star Amadou Onana, one of the best midfielders outside the Premier League’s big six.
Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest involving the Gunners and the Belgium international.
What has Fabrizio Romano said about Arsenal and Amadou Onana?
Romano, writing on GiveMeSport, has claimed that the Gunners have indeed made contact over the 22-year-old.
However, the transfer insider stresses that there haven’t been any concrete negotiations, and that Arsenal could have competition on their hands.
“[It is] not something really concrete at this point,” wrote Romano.
“They had some contact, yes, in terms of being informed on the players’ situation, but it’s not the proper negotiation to the club yet.
“I think Arsenal has several names in that list for the midfield. Onana is appreciated by many, many clubs in England.”
Arsenal may have to pay £70million for Amadou Onana
Onana has proven himself in the Premier League, so Arsenal – and other suitors – would know what they’ll be getting if they sign him.
He is an incredibly talented player who stands 6ft 5in tall, is rapid and, at just 22 years of age, he’s nowhere near his peak.
Roberto Martinez is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying about Onana in 2022: “He’s a strong personality. He never hides, he asks for the ball and he dares.
“He is one of the most talented young players in Europe.”
Everton have reportedly valued him at £70million, which is quite a hefty fee. Therefore, Arsenal will need to bring their A game to the negotiating table.
