'Worst performance', 'hopeless': Nation's media tears into £20m Arsenal man after 'nightmare' Euro 2024 display(Video)

One Arsenal player had an evening to forget at Euro 2024.
Nine of Mikel Arteta’s men were called up by their national teams for the competition, and there have been some mixed performances.

Some of them, like William Saliba, have been excellent, while others like Leandro Trossard and Kieran Tierney have faced disappointment.

Another Arsenal player has now come under fire for a really poor performance in their final game at Euro 2024 on Tuesday.

What Polish media are saying about Arsenal star Jakub Kiwior’s performance vs France
Arsenal signed Jakub Kiwior from Spezia in January 2023 in a deal worth £20 million (Sky Sports).

The Pole is a phenomenal talent. He has all the physical and technical attributes you would want from a centre-back, and he’s hugely versatile too.

Kiwior can play on either side of central defence in a back-four, anywhere in a back-three, at left-back or left-wing-back and also in defensive midfield if required.

That’s why Arsenal signed him, and he is also a key player for Poland, for whom he has done really well since making his debut in June 2022.

However, against France in Poland’s final Euro 2024 game, Kiwior was nowhere near his best.

The 24-year-old got away with a mistake in the first half, when he carelessly lost the ball and gave France a chance to score. Lukasz Skorupski saved him with a fine stop in goal.

After the break, Kiwior conceded a penalty after a needless foul on Ousmane Dembele. That allowed Kylian Mbappe to score from the spot.

Poland’s national media outlets have delivered their verdicts on Kiwior, and none of them are impressed.

Meczyki gave the Arsenal defender a 3/10 rating and wrote: “His worst performance in the national team. The procured penalty kick was just a summary of the fatal game.

“He was dangerous to our defence in the first half when he lost the ball without thinking. He regularly lost duels with Ousmane Dembele.”

Sport Radio Zet rated him 2/10 and said: “From the perspective of rivals, it probably was like this: “let’s play 14, he is weak”. And he was.

“Hopeless ball recovery in the 19th minute could have ended in a goal, then he handed one more chance for a rival, and finally, he made the foul on Dembele that led to a penalty. Performance to forget.”

Finally, TVP Sport gave Kiwior a 3/10 rating and wrote: “Until now, a certain defensive point, but today he just played a nightmare match.

“Electric, quite a few simple losses in play. In addition, he was tortured by (France’s) 11, fouling Dembele in the penalty area.”

What Kiwior has decided about his Arsenal future
Kiwior’s future at Arsenal has been in the air for a while.

The Pole only joined the Gunners 18 months ago and he played 30 games in all competitions in the 2023/24 season, albeit mostly at left-back.

However, the fact that Kiwior isn’t a regular starter has resulted in rumours that he could leave the club in this summer’s transfer window – Juventus are really keen to sign him.

But, TBR Football exclusively revealed that Kiwior will not be leaving Arsenal in this window.

Other reports have also claimed that the Pole is happy to accept the backup role at Arsenal for now and is prepared to wait for an opportunity to play in his preferred central defensive position.
