'Already I can tell': Diogo Jota shares what he's already realised about new Liverpool boss Arne Slot

Liverpool have begun a new era, with Arne Slot taking the reins from Jurgen Klopp after the latter stepped down at the end of last season.

The new Reds manager will be eager to build on last season, which saw the Anfield outfit finish third in the Premier League table.

Liverpool were in the title race for most of the season alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, and will want to go all the way in 2024/25.

So far, Slot has overseen two pre-season friendlies, a 1-0 loss to Preston and a 1-0 win over Real Betis.

The Dutchman’s job has been made a bit more difficult by the absence of players that reached the latter stages of Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

However, those players are starting to come back, based on how far they went for their respective nations in the tournaments.

One such player is Diogo Jota, who is now back in the Liverpool fold after his post-Euro 2024 holidays.

The Portugal international helped his nation to the quarter-finals of the tournament, playing out a 0-0 draw with France before losing on penalties.

Jota, speaking to The Athletic, spoke about a number of topics, including his initial thoughts on Slot and his training methods.

Diogo Jota says new Liverpool boss Arne Slot is ‘really precise’
Jota says he has noticed how precise Slot is in his ideas, going into extensive detail when discussing things.

The 27-year-old also spoke about his versatility, and how the new manager is aware that he can play across the front line.

“I’m happy to be back and I’m trying to catch the new manager’s ideas as soon as possible,” said Jota.

“Already, I can tell that he’s really precise in what he wants. He goes into a lot of detail on a lot of things.

“We don’t have a No. 9 (with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo still on holiday) so I assume that for the foreseeable future that’s where I am going to play.

“But he knows and I know that I can play a part in the attack on the left or in the centre. Wherever I play, I will do my best.”

Who will Liverpool play next in pre-season?
Liverpool, who are currently on their pre-season tour of the United States, will take on Arsenal in Philadelphia on Thursday.

The Reds will then face another Premier League giant in Manchester United in Columbia, South Carolina three days later.

Liverpool will conclude their pre-season a week before the Premier League opener, with a game against Sevilla at Anfield.

The Reds are yet to sign anyone this summer, but speculation continues to do the rounds and, with August now upon us, things could speed up.
