Argentine national media deliver verdict on Alexis Mac Allister's Copa America semi-final display

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will play in the Copa America final after Argentina beat Canada on Wednesday.

The World champions always looked favourites to progress from the weaker side of the draw and have reached a third final in succession.

Mac Allister has been a key player for Argentina throughout the tournament, starting four of their five games so far.

That continued in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as Liverpool’s No.10 helped his team to a 2-0 victory.

Mac Allister will face either Darwin Nunez or Luis Diaz in final. The Argentine’s two Anfield teammates take each other on as Uruguay play Colombia on Thursday morning.

How did Alexis Mac Allister do vs Canada?
Mac Allister has quickly become one of Lionel Scaloni’s go-to players in the national team. The Liverpool man is almost a nailed on starter.

From a Reds point of view, it’s refreshing to see one our own having such a big role alongside the likes of Lionel Messi.

And it must be said that it has been an impressive tournament from the Liverpool midfielder. Mac Allister was hailed as the best outfield player on the pitch during the quarter-final win over Ecuador.

However, after the former Brighton man expended so much energy throughout the tournament so far, the semi-final was perhaps just one step beyond him.

Argentine outlet TyC Sports gave Mac Allister a six out of 10 for his starting role in Scaloni’s side. They report that he ‘did not find the space’ to make an impact against the Canadians.

Another outlet, Ole, were slightly more complimentary of what Mac Allister gave to his teammates.

Handing Macca a seven out of 10, they claim that the Liverpool maestro offered ‘control and distribution’ to the midfield. Although Mac Allister reportedly did not ‘shine,’ he was still said to be a ‘key piece’ in the win.

Who will win Copa America 2024?
Though Argentina are the first side through to the Copa America final, they haven’t been the most convincing team in the tournament so far.

Of course they always have Lionel Messi and their status as holders of the competitions, as well as current World champions, will perhaps make them favourites for another title.

However, both Uruguay and Colombia have been in better form in the USA. Either will likely give Argentina a run for their money.

From a Liverpool point of view, it now means that we are guaranteed to have one of our first-team squad lift the trophy. All of Mac Allister, Nunez and Diaz will almost certainly start for their nations in the final.

Let’s see who can join Macca and make it to the final on Thursday morning. Good luck, lads!
