Arsenal make decision on top striker target

The Spaniard has overcome significant pressure after an underwhelming start to his tenure, and has since guided the Gunners to second-placed finishes during each of the past two Premier League seasons.
On both occasions, Arsenal have topped the table before eventually finishing behind rivals Manchester City, and Arteta will be desperate to see his side go one better next term.

With that in mind, the Spaniard will be hoping to add to his squad this summer, and it appears that those in charge of the club’s recruitment have made a significant decision.

According to Corriere dello Sport via The Evening Standard, Arsenal are leaning towards a move for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres, rather than moving for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Gyokeres could still join Arsenal this summer

The pair are both regarded as two of the best forwards in Europe at present, and the Gunners are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements.

The report claims that the North London outfit are likely to pursue a move for the Swede as he is deemed more affordable than Osimhen, despite the former’s £85 million release clause.

Gyokeres, 26, joined Sporting from Championship side Coventry City last summer and enjoyed a sensational debut season in Portugal, scoring 43 times in 50 games as well as registering 15 assists.

Napoli’s Osimhen, meanwhile, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Italian side but may now find himself struggling to find viable suitors.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have previously shown interest in the Nigeria international, but his future remains extremely uncertain.
