Arsenal 'preparing £52m bid' for lethal striker after star 'says yes' to move

Arsenal are said to be ‘preparing a bid’ to sign the Sporting Lisbon star and long-term transfer target Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Gunners have finally made their first mark in the transfer window this summer by signing Italian defensive star Riccardo Calafiori on a £42m deal but Mikel Arteta is now on the hunt for his second addition to the squad with reports from Football Transfers claiming that Arsenal are preparing a bid.
Arteta has long been on the look out for an out-and-out striker and while the likes of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford star Ivan Toney have all been linked with a move to N7, Gyokeres is reportedly the preferred target.

The Swedish star has enjoyed a phenomenal debut campaign in Portugal following his £17m move from Coventry City last summer. He has netted 43 goals and contributed 15 assists in his 50 appearances across all competitions but contains an £86m release clause in his contract. Such a figure has previously put off the Gunners from attempting to sign the 26-year-old star but the latest claims say that Arteta’s club will try to sign him for a much lower fee.

Football Transfers have claimed the Sporting CP striker is still top of the Gunners’ shortlist for a new forward, although the clubs are still far apart with their respective valuations. The former Coventry City man has a €100m (£86m) release clause but the Portuguese club would reportedly accept offer of around €70m (£60m) as Arsenal have ‘no intention’ of matching the release clause.

A move for Gyokeres could well be dependent on the potential departure of Eddie Nketiah who is currently being targeted by Ligue 1 side Marseille. The 25-year-old Gunners star has reportedly ‘said yes’ to the move but there remains no deal currently agreed upon for fees.

It is imagined that whatever Arteta can secure from Nketiah’s sale - which is reported to be around €20m (£16m) - will then go towards the £52m Arsenal will be using to lure Gyokeres to the Emirates ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
