Arsenal transfer boost as midfielder set for medical ahead of move

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga will undergo a medical at Sevilla on Friday ahead of joining the Spanish club on loan.
Lokonga is set to join Sevilla for the upcoming season, with the option to make the move permanent next summer for around £10million.

If the Spanish club choose to take up that option, Arsenal will retain a 25 per cent sell-on clause to bank more money should Lokonga move again.

The 24-year-old’s current contract is due to expire next summer, but contains the option for it to be extended by a further 12 months.

Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021 as part of a deal worth around £16m.

The Belgian made a steady start to life at Emirates Stadium, but slipped down the pecking order recently and spent last season on loan at Luton.

The Hatters were keen to keep Lokonga, but their interest faded following their relegation from the Premier League.

As reported by Standard Sport earlier this month, Sevilla have had a strong interest in Lokonga this summer and are now set to get their man.

The midfielder was keen to make the move, having always wanted to play in Spain during his career, and is excited by the challenge of testing himself in La Liga.

Given Lokonga’s lack of minutes, Arsenal will be pleased to bank £10m for him next summer, while the additional sell-on clause should secure them a future windfall, too.
