His current contract with the Eredivisie outfit expires in June next year. The England youth international is said to be keen on securing a move to the Gunners.
Arsenal eyeing new third-choice goalkeeper for next season
The Gunners are currently looking for a new third-choice goalkeeper. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dan Bentley has also been on the radar over the past few weeks.
The club have been unable to convince Wolves with their proposal. It appears they may have turned their attention to pursuing Setford, who was born in the Netherlands.
The 18-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Dutch giants, but he has already managed 44 appearances in the academy, keeping 17 clean sheets.
Not much is known about the youngster, but Arsenal are probably tempted to land his signature, considering his talent and early potential at the international level.
Setford has represented England in four age groups and he was recently on the bench for England’s Under-20 friendlies against Sweden and Ireland last month.
Arsenal could consider him as a unique market opportunity. Karl Hein recently put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal, but the club are most likely to loan him out.
Setford could be the Gunners’ third-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale next season, though the latter’s future continues to be speculated.
If Ramsdale were to leave the club, the hierarchy have their sights on landing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who has a £21 million release clause in his contract.
