Arteta now wants 22-goal hitman who admires Arsenal as alternative option to Jesus - report

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes Ajax striker Brian Brobbey can provide an alternative option to the injury-prone Gabriel Jesus in attack, and the Gunners are plotting a summer transfer swoop for the Netherlands international, according to the Sun.

The 22-year-old impressed in the Eredivisie last term, ending the campaign with 22 goals and 12 assists in 43 matches across all competitions.

As a result, Brobbey’s form has also attracted his former boss Erik ten Hag and Manchester United, who are set for a £30 million battle with Arsenal over him.

Some Italian clubs are keen on the former RB Leipzig striker too, but he has his heart set on a Premier League switch, recently admitting the Gunners are one of the clubs he admires.

A spate of frequent injuries to Jesus since he joined Arsenal from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 has left Arteta frustrated, and the Spaniard was forced to start deploying Kai Havertz as a number 9 last term despite recruiting the Germany international as a direct replacement for Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Gunners want to bolster their attacking ranks this summer after missing out on the Premier League title for the second consecutive campaign, and Brobbey fits the bill.

The Dutchman is a brilliant finisher who has mastered the art of passing having grown up within the youth ranks of Ajax.

Brobbey is strong, quite pacy on the ball and possesses the ability to drive the ball forward quickly, which are skills Arsenal could do with in an attacker.

Despite standing at just 5ft 11in, the striker can jump impressively well and is dangerous in aerial situations.

He has drawn comparisons with the likes of Didier Drogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku due to his strength as he is very big, boasts pure muscle, is physical and powerful, and landing him could help Arsenal go one better next term.
