Benjamin Sesko shares the real reason he decided not to sign for Arsenal this summer

Riccardo Calafiori looks set to become Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer, but, in another world, Benjamin Sesko would’ve been an Arsenal player by now.
Indeed, Arsenal were very keen on Sesko earlier this summer, but the striker ultimately decided to stay at RB Leipzig.

Speaking to Nogomania, Sesko has now opened up on his decision to reject Arsenal and stay in Germany.

The striker says that he had to think his decision through thoroughly, and he decided to stay at Leipzig as he wanted to gain more experience and not rush into the next step of his career, claiming that he felt Leipzig was the right place to develop at the moment.

Why Benjamin Sesko turned down Arsenal
Sesko spoke about his decision to stay at Leipzig.

“Before the Euro, you extended your contract with Leipzig despite being wanted by big clubs. What tipped the balance?” Sesko was asked.

I thought it through very well. I believe I made the right decision. I wanted to gain more experience, learn more, and not rush things.

“Leipzig is an excellent club that can provide what I need for the next step. Leipzig’s vision is clear; everything is geared towards growth, progress, and high goals. I felt it was right to decide this way,” Sesko said.

Sesko then admitted that these rumours did get in his head somewhat.

“The rumours were wild before this decision. How did you manage to block them out?” Sesko was asked.

“I can’t deny such things don’t get into your subconscious, it’s probably quite normal, human. Still, I remained calm despite everything. I got through that turbulent period and approached the Euro fully focused,” Sesko said.

Benjamin Sesko made the right decision
Benjamin Sesko wanted to gain more experience and develop, and staying at Leipzig was the right decision with that in mind.

Indeed, Sesko will start every week at Leipzig and be treated like a star. Meanwhile, he was told by Arsenal that Kai Havertz would be the first-choice striker heading into this season.

At the age of just 21, Sesko has lots of time on his side, and, as he says, he doesn’t need to rush into a decision about joining another club as the most important thing is to develop his own game in his own time.
