‘Brilliant signing’: Paul Merson over the moon after hearing who Arsenal could be bringing in

Riccardo Calafiori is reportedly set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer as the Bologna defender gears up to take his Gunners medical.
Italy may have been eliminated from Euro 2024 at an early stage, but Calafiori was one of the better performers at the tournament.

The centre-back is coming off the back of the best season of his career as he helped Bologna to Champions League qualification, and now, he’s ready to join a truly elite club.

Arsenal look set to conclude this signing in the coming days, and this one has the seal of approval from Paul Merson.

Merson is very excited by the idea of Calafiori coming to Arsenal, and he also mentions the reports that Arsenal are interested in signing his Italy teammate, Federico Chiesa.

Arsenal could be set for another exciting signing
Calafiori to Arsenal looks as though it’s almost a done deal, but Merson is also excited about the idea of Chiesa potentially coming in.

Chiesa has been tentatively linked to Arsenal, but, unfortunately for Merson, it does look as though this deal is unlikely.

Indeed, it has been reported that the winger is more likely to join Tottenham this summer, and given how often Spurs do business with Juventus, that is a logical deal.

Of course, Chiesa would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal, he’d bring some much-needed depth down that right wing and remove some of the weight from Bukayo Saka’s shoulders.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Chiesa’s arrival is imminent, but it may not be long before Calafiori is an Arsenal player.
