Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been frustrated so far in the summer transfer window as they have missed out on Benjamin Sesko, who signed a new deal at RB Leipzig.
A midfielder is also a key target for the Gunners but Martin Zubimendi, the club’s top target prefers a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, the North London club have now pivoted to Zubimendi’s teammate, Mikel Merino.
Sales will also be key this summer to generate some much needed funds but it appears Arsenal are struggling to shift one first-team player.
Arsenal struggling to shift £40 million star this summer
Sources have told HITC that Arsenal may consider loaning Aaron Ramsdale out next season.
The England goalkeeper has made it clear to club chiefs he does not want to spend the season on the bench as back-up to David Raya, as he did last term.
Arsenal are open to selling him but their price-tag of over £40m has put off potential potential buyers thus far.
We reported earlier this summer that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United were keen on the English goalkeeper but the Magpies were forced to back away from the deal due to the price tag demanded by the Gunners.
Following the arrival of Raya from Brentford, the former Sheffield United goalkeeper was relegated to the substitutes bench and the Spaniard became the undisputed first choice.
A loan could be a possibility this summer for Ramsdale but his options are not endless.
Ramsdale’s options for summer move are limited
Ramsdale’s representatives are understood to now be assessing their options, but they are already aware that there are fewer options available to them as the summer goes on.
HITC understands that Southampton are one of those who have an interest in Ramsdale but there are also clubs in Europe who are keen.
It’s been a mixed time in North London but Arteta has seemingly decided that Raya will remain the club’s first choice.
Arteta hailed Ramsdale as ‘exceptional‘ last season but the Englishman’s time at the Emirates Stadium looks to be coming to an end.
