Exclusive: Chelsea furious as Liverpool close in on signing wonderkid

Ngumoha
HITC understands that Chelsea are furious with Liverpool as the Reds close in on the signing of one academy player from the Blues.

Liverpool and Chelsea have a history of transfers between the two clubs with the most infamous example being Fernando Torres back in 2011.

Daniel Sturridge, who played a key role in nearly firing Liverpool to the Premier League title, is another and it now appears that another name is set to join this list.

Sources have told HITC that the Reds are set to land Chelsea younger Rio Ngumoha but the West London side are understood to be furious with the Merseyside club.

Chelsea’s feelings on the situation
The Blues were understood to be aware of interest from some of the Premier League’s top clubs including Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, with the winger set to turn 16 next summer.

There was also Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid who had been watching the situation closely – but despite all the interest, Chelsea were confident that Ngumoha would remain at Stamford Bridge.

Sources, with knowledge of the situation, have informed HITC that the Blues are ‘astonished’ and ‘angry’ over the deal as they are set to lose one of their most promising assets.

Ngumoha, a talented left winger, made nine appearances for the Chelsea under-18s last season, scoring one goal and one assist, despite still being the tender age of 15.

it is unclear where the Englishman would go into Liverpool’s academy set up but this will be a major coup for the Reds.

Not the first time that Liverpool have raided opposition academies
In recent years, under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have raided other different Premier League academies to add to their own youth groups.

The likes of Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho, Ben Doak and Bobby Clark are just some of the names arriving on Merseyside via the academies of other clubs.

As for Ngumoha, this is a major coup for the Reds and the Englishman was seriously impressing with an older age group for the Blues.

With Chelsea understood to be ‘astonished’ over Liverpool signing the winger, Ngumoha may well become a household name in years to come for the Reds.
