The Gunners have been chasing the Italian defender for a number of weeks now. Talks with Bologna were not easy, but Arsenal struck an agreement to sign Calafiori last week.
The Premier League runners-up are now looking to complete the formalities very soon.
Riccardo Calafiori has arrived for his Arsenal medical
Arsenal fans have been waiting for the Calafiori deal to be done.
The Gunners have been trying to sign the ‘powerful‘ defender since Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024. Bologna have not made it easy, but the deal is in the final stages now.
Calafiori made a plea to Bologna to let him go to Arsenal earlier in July, and after long negotiations, the Serie A club reached an agreement with the Londoners.
Now, TBR Football can confirm that Calafiori has arrived in England to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to Arsenal.
TBR is told that if all goes to plan, Calafiori will link up with the rest of the Arsenal squad in America on their pre-season tour by Saturday.
The Gunners, after facing Bournemouth in their opening game in Los Angeles, are scheduled to take on Manchester United and Liverpool in the coming days.
It remains to be seen if Calafiori will feature in either one of these games.
Arsenal’s priority after sealing Calafiori deal
TBR Football understands that once the Calafiori deal is finalised, Arsenal are set to pursue their next target which is expected to be a midfielder.
The Gunners are short of options in the middle of the park, and with Emile Smith Rowe set to leave for Fulham in the coming days, they need reinforcements.
TBR Football can confirm that Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is emerging as Arsenal’s top target.
The Spaniard has entered the final year of his contract at Estadio de Anoeta, and it is looking increasingly likely that he will leave the club this summer.
