It has been a quiet summer at Anfield to date, with Arne Slot easing into his new surroundings and no new signings made yet.
Euro 2024 has taken centre stage for the time being, but that doesn’t mean that Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes aren’t eyeing up fresh faces to bring to Liverpool.
While established players are sure to come in between now and the end of the season, it is always important that young emerging talent is also looked at.
Slot appears to be an advocate of youth, as was always the case with Jurgen Klopp, and taking to X on Monday, Romano claimed that Liverpool are on the verge of signing 15-year-old attacker Ngumoha from Chelsea this summer:
“EXCL: Liverpool are closing in on deal to sign Rio Ngumoha (2008) as he’s leaving Chelsea Academy. LFC are set to break historical wage structure for Academy to sign Rio, who’s highly rated by the club. Deal set to be completed soon.”

While many Liverpool supporters understandably won’t know much about Ngumoha, it looks as though the Reds could be on the verge of sealing a stunning piece of business.
Reacting to the news on X, journalist Maxi Angelo stated that he is “one of the biggest talents in the UK”, while The Anfield Wrap shared exciting footage of his debut for Chelsea’s Under-21s at the age of just 15.
It does feel as though Liverpool may have played a transfer masterstroke at the expense of their Premier League rivals, snapping up a player with an incredibly high ceiling.
Should that be the case, it is an immediate sign that bringing Edwards back to Anfield was a huge moment, this time as CEO of Football, and it will be so interesting to see how Ngumoha develops in the coming years.
Slot has said that giving youngsters a chance will bring an “energy” to Liverpool, as Klopp did so brilliantly, and the Chelsea starlet could even have dreams of being one the Reds’ youngest-ever players, with Jerome Sinclair the current incumbent of that honour after making his debut at 16 years and six days.
