The Gunners are believed to be in talks over Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori and have also been linked with a number of other players.
While Arsenal will likely be prioritising senior players, they are certainly not neglecting the youth market.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Arsenal have submitted a first proposal for a “big talent” in the England youth setup.
Arsenal move for Ajax gem Tommy Setford
The player in question is Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford, who plays for the Dutch club’s Under-19s and has represented the Young Lions up to U19 level.
Romano has taken to X to report that Arsenal have made an offer to Ajax for the 18-year-old, and talks are said to be ongoing.
Setford, who was born in Haarlem and holds a Dutch passport, is also keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium, according to the transfer insider.
While Ajax see him as a “big talent”, his contract only runs until 2025, so they may feel they have to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing next year.

Setford likes being part of the England setup
Although Setford was born in the Netherlands and holds a Dutch passport, he is eligible to play for England through his father’s nationality.
“It’s a great honour to play for England,” Setford told the Ajax website last year. “It’s the land my father’s from, so I play for him a little.
“But they appreciate me at England: the coaches and goalkeeper coaches are happy with how I do things.”
Although the Dutch FA (KNVB) has approached Setford, he doesn’t see a reason to switch.
“Not only are the U17 coaches happy with me, but the U21 coaches and the first team see that I perform well in England. They see a lot of potential in me.”
