Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal plan to sign 'world class' player by next week

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of a highly rated player on the continent.
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar will be working closely on a number of deals this summer as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of pre-season later this month.

A striker is certainly one of the priority positions they’re looking to strengthen in, as is a left-footed defender.

That said, they’re now close to signing the latter and Romano has confirmed when a deal is expected to be completed.

Romano added that a deal is now close and all being well, the ‘world class’ player should be announced as an Arsenal player in the coming days, beating Chelsea, amongst others, to his signature.

Arsenal now need to focus on signing a striker
After completing the signing of Calafiori, attention must quickly turn towards bringing in a top-level striker as that’s an area that will be the difference maker in a title race.

Victor Osimhen has been deemed too expensive so it’s thought the club will now accelerate a deal to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, who netted 43 times last term.

Ivan Toney has been mooted but that deal seems to have gone off the boil and Joshua Zirkzee has also been a rumoured target but he’s now in advanced talks to join Manchester United.

So The Gunners really do need to get going with negotiations on strikers otherwise prices will start to rise as the season approaches.

It seems they need to offload players before they can facilitate a move for a number nine.
