'I am not sold': Shaka Hislop adamant two Arsenal players will cost Mikel Arteta the PL title

The smallest of margins are now proving to be the biggest of differences for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta.

When looking and analysing the Arsenal squad, you could probably name 95% of the starting XI and who the first few changes would be.

You could even point towards the players who are good enough to help Arsenal win the Premier League title – from midfield machine Declan Rice to starboy, Bukayo Saka.

But which players are the weak points ahead of the new season starting next month, with the Gunners kicking off proceedings at home to Wolves on August 17?

For Shaka Hislop, he is certain that two players within the squad need to be replaced because they aren’t good enough to help the team cross that trophy line.

At the end of the day, when you are competing against the might and trophy-winning machine that is Manchester City, then not even an outstanding campaign would do. Just ask Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool!

The fans found that out last season when Arsenal were beaten to the Premier League title on the last day of the campaign.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus featured a fair bit during that campaign, with the duo effectively fighting for one spot, although, the German was also deployed as a number eight, at times.

However, the same old conversation keeps popping up when discussing Arsenal and that’s critics thinking that they need a striker.

Hislop raised that argument again and he made it clear that he ‘isn’t sold’ on Havertz, even though he had 20 goal involvements last term.

Despite that, former Premier League goalkeeper Hislop thinks Havertz, alongside Jesus, are players who will cost you the title and they need to be upgraded, as he told ESPN.

Arsenal told to replace Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus
“Defence isn’t the first thing you think of when you think Arsenal need to improve,” said Hislop.

“But it does really come down to Arsenal’s attacking options. Whilst Havertz, at times, popped up at key moments, key games with goals. I am just not sold on Havertz as a striker to lead a team to win the Premier League. I feel the same about Gabriel Jesus, who I felt started wonderfully well when he first joined Arsenal.

“There is still that department to be addressed. Arteta is right, margins are really thin, especially when you consider just how good Manchester City continue to be.”

Kai Havertz deserves more respect
Havertz was being dubbed a ‘flop’ just after joining Arsenal, as many people within the media just didn’t give him a chance.

But the versatile forward was quickly shutting down that noise when he couldn’t stop scoring, especially against his former club Chelsea.

Havertz certainly deserves to have more respect put on his name because he is far better than people give him credit for.

But you just feel, like the rest of his teammates, he won’t get the recognition until Arsenal are champions of England.
