The Reds are often quick off the mark once the window opens at the end of the season. However, that has been a different story this year.
There are other reasons for that. Arne Slot arriving as the new head coach after almost a decade of Jurgen Klopp is something that needs to be handled with care at Anfield.
As Slot assesses his Liverpool squad, there is little need to start adding new faces immediately.
Consequently, perhaps some would argue that Euro 2024 has actually been a blessing in disguise for Slot. It has allowed he and the Liverpool coaching staff to look at their group of players without a big rush in the market.
Liverpool scouting Baris Alper Yilmaz
Another reason Euro 2024 could actually have come at a good time for Liverpool is because it has given the Reds a chance to take a closer look at some potential transfer targets.
Being as thorough as they usually are in the market, it’s neigh on impossible that the Liverpool owners would choose to sign a player on the back of one good tournament.
However, the competition in Germany will have allowed the Reds to look at some players on their radar in a hugely competitive setting.
Whether they make any signings on the back of that remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, journalist Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Rousing The Kop that Liverpool scouts have been busy during the tournament. And Turkey’s Baris Alper Yilmaz is one who has caught their attention.
“Yilmaz is a huge talent, a genuine player who a lot of the Premier League and Europe are looking at, so no surprise they have been looking at him,” Bailey tells us.
The journalist reports that as Slot has previously scouted Yilmaz for Feyenoord, the new head coach would seemingly be onboard with the signing.
“I am told that Yilmaz is a player Arne Slot was aware of during his time at Feyenoord also,” Bailey adds. “As it stands, we know Liverpool have looked at him and that included at the Euros too. One to keep an eye on.”
Liverpool can sign Baris Alper Yilmaz for just £25m
Yilmaz was really impressive throughout Turkey’s run to the quarter-finals. It’s easy to see what he could potentially bring to the Reds.
With players like Anthony Gordon linked with Liverpool, it seems that Slot is after a fast, direct type of winger.
But while Gordon was offered to Liverpool for around £85m, it has been claimed that Yilmaz could cost just a fraction of that.
The president of the 24-year-old’s former club, Ankara Keciorengucu, has admitted that he thinks Yilmaz could be sold for just £25m this summer. That would look like fantastic value.
As we know, Liverpool are always on the lookout for a bargain in the window. Perhaps they’ll be tempted enough to make the Galatasaray man their first summer signing.
