It took Mikel Arteta‘s side until almost August, but Arsenal have finally secured their first major signing of the summer with Riccardo Calafiori.
The Gunners were made to wait for their first big signing this summer but the Italy international has now joined up with his new side in the United States.
But now Arsenal are looking to strike whilst the iron is hot by landing what would be their second major addition of the window.
And they could well be provided with a clear run at one of their targets with his current club opening up to the idea of his sale over the coming weeks.

Arsenal summer target to be allowed to leave by his club
The signing of Calafiori is one which should lift the Arsenal fanbase going into the new campaign considering it was an area of the pitch they were already extremely strong.
There was no real need for Arsenal to strengthen their defence, and yet, they have been able to bring in one of the most exciting young centre-backs in Europe to the club.
It is a real statement of intent from the Gunners in their pursuit of finally getting their hands back on the Premier League title.
But they could soon add another star from this summer’s Euros which would provide another impressive addition.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad are now beginning to accept that Mikel Merino is highly unlikely to sign a new deal this summer.
The midfielder has just one year remaining on his current contract and Sociedad would, therefore, he will be allowed to leave if he doesn’t put pen to paper.
“Real Sociedad believe that Merino will not sign a new contract. They are still trying until the end to offer him a new deal, but they feel that this is going to be more than complicated,” Romano told GivemeSport.
“With one year left on his contract, the expectation is that if he doesn’t sign a new deal shortly, he’s going to be allowed to leave the club.
“There is interest also from Barcelona, interest also from Atletico Madrid. So these three clubs, Barca, Atletico and Arsenal, are showing an interest.”
Mikel Merino wants to join Arsenal this summer
Romano noted the interest which is arriving for Merino from other clubs inside Spain, but a move to north London appears to be of real interest to the ‘incredible‘ midfielder.
And what a statement that would be if the Gunners were able to beat the likes of Barcelona to a Spanish player.
Undoubtedly, Arteta will have his eye on the title already and adding players like Calafiori and potentially Merino could provide the side with a big lift ahead of the new campaign.
