'It's sad': Journalist reacts after hearing Arsenal could be set to sign 'champion' this summer

Arsenal fans are being made to wait to welcome their first arrival of this summer’s transfer window.

Almost on full month into the market and the Gunners are still yet to see any new faces arrive at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta has had to be patient but it seems there may well be a breakthrough coming in Arsenal‘s summer window.

The Gunners are now closing in on their first arrival of the summer with Edu Gaspar and Arteta looking set to add a big addition to their defence.

Italian journalist reacts after hearing Riccardo Calafiori update
Although they may have been made to wait for it, finally it looks like Arsenal are set to complete their first piece of business this summer.

Although the north London side came out of the 2023/24 campaign with the best defensive record in the Premier League, a new addition is set to be added.

Calafiori‘s move away from Serie A has developed quickly following Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024.

Speaking to the Italian media, journalist Fabrizio Ponciroli has shared his thoughts on Calafiori’s expected move to Arsenal.

“If a top Premier League club calls you, how can you say no,” he said.

“I don’t want to exaggerate, but we’re talking about the best league in the world with the best players in the world. If I’m good, I’m good and I show it.

“Calafiori is right to go to the Premier League and if he were to do well with Arsenal he would show that he is a champion for the present and future of the national team. It’s sad not to see him in Italy anymore, but it would be the right choice.”

As if conceding the fewest goals in the Premier League wasn’t enough last season, Arteta is now adding serious strength to his squad.

The Gunners did not end the 2023/24 season with a trophy to their name but adding to the squad depth with quality players like Calafiori could go a long way.

Jurrien Timber missed a lot of the campaign through his injury issue which did leave Arsenal’s options at the back limited when it came to rotation.

But with Calafiori, Arsenal are getting a promising 22-year-old centre-back who could also be deployed at left-back.

It is a deal which many across the league are likely to be envious of.
