'I've changed my mind': Journalist thinks £42m player will sign for Arsenal this summer now

Arsenal are yet to make their first new signing of the summer.

David Raya has joined on a permanent deal, but after last season’s loan move, that looked inevitable in any case, and we’re still waiting on the first new arrival at the Emirates this summer.

Riccardo Calafiori is one player who has been strongly linked with a move to north London as of late, with a reported £42m deal lined up, but this move had been played down by some sources.

Indeed, Dean Jones stated a couple of weeks ago that he didn’t think this move would happen, but after reconvening with his sources, he’s now changed his mind and believes Calafiori will eventually become an Arsenal player.

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal now likely to happen
Jones shared his verdict on this potential move.

“Calafiori, I had reservations about this on one of the shows I did recently. There hasn’t been much change with how this deal is moving forwards. I think we are at the stage where Arsenal do have an interest, and they have moved full steam ahead basically. I’ve changed my mind on it, I do think it will happen,” Jones said on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast.

Arsenal need more additions
While Calafiori is a smart first signing of the summer, the Gunners need to step up their activity.

Indeed, Arsenal came into this summer needing a new midfielder and a new striker, and those two areas still need addressing.

The Gunners came so close to winning the Premier League last year, and they need to make sure they’re adding in the right areas so they can push on and catch Manchester City this time around.

Of course, signing the right players in the right positions is much easier said than done, but Arsenal do need to push the boat out in this window if they are to close the gap on City and become Premier League champions this time.
