The transfer "crescendo" Richard Hughes predicted won't come until August, if the Liverpool sporting director is proven correct, but the Reds might be able to start getting an understanding of what their squad will look like for the new season after Slot got a first hand glimpse of the players he's to work with in pre-season.
Indeed, the new Liverpool boss admitted himself that he was impressed with the levels shown by the younger players at his disposal, and they will certainly colour any transfer plans for the coming weeks, but there are still a number of players whose future could be elsewhere and that will come into Hughes' thinking as he plots for incomings.
Liverpool will be keen to seek clarity regarding the future of Caoimhin Kelleher, with the Irishman admitting publicly he'd like to be first choice in the coming season and Alisson returning to the fold before the tour of the USA after playing in the Copa America. It's not guaranteed Kelleher will depart the club as things stand but it also wouldn't be a surprise to see the Irishman move on before the summer is out.
The Reds won't allow him to depart on the cheap and will be looking at a market that saw Arsenal pay £30m for David Raya and Robert Sanchez move to Chelsea for £25m. So a fee of around £25m is realistic for a player who was so influential last season.
If Kelleher does leave, a deal could be sweetened with certain sell-on or buy-back clauses, which were the trademark of Liverpool's business under Michael Edwards.

Meanwhile, more likely to depart is Sepp van den Berg, with Liverpool putting a price-tag of around £20m on the Dutchman. It remains to be seen if Slot would prefer to give him a chance to feature in his centre-back plans but at 23, he's now in a position where first-team football is a necessity for his career.
Mainz are interested after a successful loan and PSV Eindhoven have also asked about the defender and it's not a stretch to think there could be a compromise struck with regards to a fee.
Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are both players who will be looking to depart the club this summer. At 27 and 23 respectively, they won't be players Liverpool fetch huge fees for but have both proven they are able to compete at a good level. £7m combined seems fair.
Elsewhere in the squad, it might be time for Kostas Tsimikas to seek pastures new. The Greek defender has now featured as back-up to Andy Robertson for four seasons now and his life cycle at the club might be coming to a natural end. A fee of around £15m seems right for the 28-year-old.
Moving into midfield and Tyler Morton has attracted strong interest this summer after strong seasons out on loan at Blackburn and Hull respectively. Like others mentioned, Liverpool might yet decide that they want the 21-year-old to stay and compete for a place in midfield but a fee of around £15-20m is fair for someone who has attracted interest from clubs as big as RB Salzburg.
Another player well known to the Red Bull group is Fabio Carvalho, who spent time with RB Leipzig last summer before joining up with Morton at Hull, where he shone with nine goals in 20 games.
It'd make sense for Carvalho to be given an opportunity to shine in pre-season by Slot but with Liverpool having strong options at the top of the pitch, it wouldn't be a major surprise to see him depart before the summer is out. Liverpool paid around £5m for his services and would hope to fetch around four times that for a player of such potential.
Arne Slot impresses insiders after behind-the-scenes talks - but Liverpool reality is about to hit
A heavily incentivised deal that brings Liverpool towards £20m could be suitable to all parties.
Liverpool's senior forward line could also be in for changes this summer, with speculation raging around the future of Luis Diaz - linked with both Barcelona and Paris-Saint Germain - as well as doubts about Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. The latter two are likely to stay put but Diaz's future seems less certain.
Depending on who, if any, club decides to firm up their interest in Diaz, Liverpool should seek no less than £60m for a player who has been so influential for the club since joining in 2022.
