Desperate to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSRs), the ECHO understands that Eddie Howe's side approached the Reds, asking for Jarell Quansah as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal for Gordon. It's believed that Liverpool have no plans to offload the 21-year-old defender this summer, or indeed at any point in the near future, after breaking into the first-team.
Quansah, who signed a new long-term contract last May, featured 33 times for the Reds last term and Slot views him as an important member of the squad. So, the Dutchman will reportedly offer Newcastle a different player to sweeten the deal.
Despite establishing himself in the Premier League as an Everton player, Gordon has made little secret of his admiration for Liverpool. Last month, he talked up Steven Gerrard as one of his boyhood idols.
"Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up," Gordon told The Overlap last month. "Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player."
Gordon has also heaped praise on Mohamed Salah. He added: "My confidence comes from my preparation. I don't know where it comes from, I wouldn't say anyone around me is anything like that. I just love learning stuff, and throughout my years growing up, I've taken a liking to learning about psychology.
"There may be people who do the same thing as me, there may be loads who just haven't spoken about it. Some footballers like to think less, just turn up and play and trust their instincts. I just love the mindset of getting myself in that place before I'm already there.
"I saw Mo Salah talk about it — that's where I took even more interest, because I see him as an absolute machine and a winner. People like that, you're not going to go too far wrong following what they do."
Then, when speaking on Channel 4's TikTok channel during international duty, Gordon was asked what stadium he's enjoyed playing in most. He said: "Other than St. James' Park, it's Anfield by far.
"I think because I'm from the city, it's probably like I grew up watching it. But I just think before the game when they sing You'll Never Walk Alone, it's top, top level."
