Mikel Arteta left his press conference chuckling after a question about his teams’ chances of winning the Premier League title next year.
Arteta was speaking to press ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Manchester United in the States.
He was reminded that his side have twice failed to pip Pep Guardiola’s City to the League title and was asked what it would take to win this season.
The Gunners manager simply replied with a chuckle: “114 points”
He said: “If we do that, we will win the league for sure!
“This is the objective and from there let’s see what we can get, but today that has to be the target, win every single game and earn the right to win it.”
Manchester City won their fourth Premier League title in a row as they finished the season on 91 points with Arsenal just two points behind.
In the 2022/23 season, despite looking comfortable at the top of the table for parts of the season, The Gunners finished five points behind Guardiola’s side.
Arteta’s side will face Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils tonight in Los Angeles.
United are just starting their pre-season tour of the States but got off to a winning start last week when they beat Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
Arsenal beat Bournemouth on penalties in California after a 1-1 draw between the two Premier League clubs.
On the opening weekend of the Premier League, Arsenal will host Wolves while City travel to Chelsea.
