Arsenal are set to add a new left-footed centre-back to their ranks in the near future.
Indeed, Riccardo Calafiori is supposedly set to join the Gunners in the coming days, and, inevitably, the arrival of a new big-money defender has led to some questions around other players’ futures.
Of course, that left-sided centre-back slot is usually reserved for Gabriel Magalhaes, so it would be logical to suggest he could leave.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, the Brazilian’s future at Arsenal is rather secure with Jakub Kiwior said to be more likely to leave the club instead.
Jakub Kiwior more likely to leave than Gabriel Magalhaes
Romano shared an update on Gabriel’s future and his ‘extraordinary’ teammate.
“This doesn’t mean that Arsenal have to sell Gabriel. He is a really important player for Arsenal. I don’t see the link with Gabriel, It’s more likely to see a player like Jakub Kiwior leaving Arsenal if Calafiori does sign,” Romano said.
Calafiori moves leaves Kiwior redundant
Jakub Kiwior actually had quite a good season for Arsenal last time around, but this move for Calafiori could leave him in a position where he’s redundant in this side.
Indeed, Kiwior would find himself as the third-choice left-sided centre-back, and arguably the fourth-choice left-back when you consider the presence of both Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
If Calafiori comes in, as he is expected to, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Kiwior was allowed to move on, with a number of clubs in Italy said to be keen on signing him.
Of course, Calafiori is yet to sign for Arsenal, but all the noise suggests he could be on the move soon, and once the Italian does join the Gunners, Kiwior’s days at the Emirates could be numbered.
Sadly, despite decent performances, Kiwior may have played his final game for Arsenal.
